Before we start with this article, I would like to ask you a simple question – do you know what’s gelatin? Here’s what you need to know – gelatin is largely composed of the amino acids glycine and proline, which many people don’t consume in adequate amounts as they are found in the bones, fibrous tissues and organs of animals and as a population, we don’t consume these parts as much anymore. These amino acids are needed not only for proper skin, hair and nail growth, but for optimal immune function and weight regulation!Glycine, which makes up about 1/3 of the amino acids in gelatin powder is anti-inflammatory and evidence is finding that it can help speed wound healing. Glycine in gelatin can also help improve sleep ease and quality.
The Million-Dollar Question – Why They Give Jello to Sick People in Hospitals:
Here’s the answer – jello is considered a “clear liquid”. Just like broth, juice,water, tea… It’s one of the easiest foods for your body to digest, so hospitals use it a lot for people who are recovering from whatever because their stomachs can’t handle anything rich. Icky tummies need to get calories in a way that doesn’t cause a sick person distress…and Jello has sugar, so it’s got calories. Aside from the usual liquid diet reasons. Jello is pretty easy to get through your system. If you’re trying to get better, having something easy to digest is good for you. Especially if you’re on a jello and liquids only diet. Another reason is that they make so much of it every day for all those liquid diet people that they just give it out to everyone since they have so much left over.
Gelatin can also improve gut integrity and digestive strength by enhancing gastric acid secretion and restoring a healthy mucosal lining in the stomach; low stomach acid and an impaired gut barrier are two common digestive problems in our modern society. Gelatin also absorbs water and helps keep fluid in the digestive tract, promoting good intestinal transit and healthy bowel movements.
Gelatin – Health Benefits:
  • Gelatin is loaded with protein – 6 grams of protein per tablespoon, it’s a great way to add more protein to your diet.
  • Gelatin improves digestion – gelatin naturally binds to water and helps food move through the digestive tract more easily.
  • Gelatin can help heal food allergies and intolerances – if you add gelatin to your diet, it can heal the lining of your stomach and digestive tract.
  • Gelatin is good for bone and joint health – as we said, it contains lots of amino acids important in helping to prevent the weakness and degeneration of cartilage in joints.
  • Gelatin helps your body release toxins – the glycine, an amino acid found in gelatin, assists the liver to efficiently remove toxins from our system.
  • Gelatin gives you better hair, nails, and teeth – it contains keratin, which is a very strong protein found in your hair, nails, teeth and skin.
  • It improves the elasticity of your skin – first, you should know that gelatin is essentially cooked down collagen. Consuming it will help improve the look and feel of your skin much more effectively then hard- to- absorb collagen facial creams.
  • Gelatin helps speed up wound healing – how this works: one of the amino acids found in gelatin is glycine, which is highly anti-infl
  • Gelatin can improve your quality of sleep a recent study has found that not only do people sleep better when consuming the amino acid glycine, they report less daytime drowsiness and better cognitive function.
  • Gelatin can help with weight loss – the experts say that itincreases the production of Human Growth Hormone and to boost metabolism.

What Are Pomegranates Good For?

Pomegranate Power

Botanical name: Punica granatum
From ancient Persia to the Himalayas and beyond, tangy pomegranates are mentioned several times in the Bible, and are one of the world's most popular and cultivated fruits today. After being introduced in California by Spanish settlers in 1769, they're still grown in the American west, although they require very dry air and high temperatures to produce the best flavor.
Pomegranates are a beautiful fruit, distinctive with glossy, gold-to-red color and a crown-slash-calyx at the top. The flavor and juiciness only improves after several months of (cool, preferably dark) storage. The inside of the fruit is completely unique, filled with ruby-red arils or seed sacs – 600 of them on average – separated by thin, bitter, white membranes. The arils make an attractive, tasty garnish when sprinkled on various dishes.
Marinades, sauces, and salsas are great uses for pomegranates, and it’s versatile when mixed with other foods such as olives, beets, avocados, cucumbers, apples, pears, or persimmons. Try dropping the arils into sparkling cider for a festive and tasty holiday drink.
Pomegranates are most easily eaten by removing the crown with a knife and scoring through the tough rind. To remove the fruit, it's helpful to immerse it in a bowl of cool water, holding it under the surface to gently break apart and separate the seeds (arils), which will fall to the bottom. The floating bits of rind and membrane can then be skimmed from the surface.
For a fresh glass of pomegranate juice, place a few handfuls of arils into a bag and flatten them gently with a rolling pin. Snip a tiny corner from the bag and voilĂ  - enjoy!

Health Benefits of Pomegranates

Low in saturated fat and cholesterol, pomegranates are an excellent source of vitamin C, providing 48% of the daily recommended value and 58% of what's needed from vitamin K. Chock-full of minerals, they provide high amounts of copper, potassium, folate, manganese, thiamin, pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), and pyridoxine, with ample amounts of antioxidant polyphenols thrown in. Three such polyphenols are tannins, anthocyanins, and ellagic acid. While most fruits contain some,  fresh pomegranate juice has all three, as well as the antioxidant punicalagin, which research indicates may be effective in reducing the risk of heart disease due to aggressive free radical-scavenging activities in the body.
Pomegranates have healthy amounts of fiber to help keep your system regulated, and are one of the fruits nutritionists suggest for weight loss and cholesterol level control, while at the same time boosting immunity, improving circulation, and offering cancer protection. In addition, they do protect against cancer, as numerous studies indicate.
Please remember to consume pomegranates in moderation because they contain fructose, which may be harmful to your health in excessive amounts.
You should also remember that fruit "drinks" aren't a good choice for you or your family. See why 100% juice is the only healthy choice.

Studies on Pomegranate

One study was based two main premises: that prostate cancer is the second highest cause of cancer death among men, and that pomegranate juice is known to be rich in polyphenols with potent antioxidant activity and the power to inhibit cell proliferation, invasion, and promote apoptosis (cell death) in various cancer cells. The positive conclusion provided further insight into the molecular mechanism of inducing prostate cancer cell death using pomegranate juice, with dialogue on how to go about developing new mechanism-based chemopreventive strategies for treating prostate cancer using this fruit.1
Another study involved the potential anticancer effects of pomegranate extracts and genistein (plant-based phytoestrogen) on the inhibition, proliferation, and apoptosis of breast cancer cell cultures. Both the extracts and genistein showed significant and positive dose- and time-dependent effects on inhibiting cancer cells, but significantly higher in combination treatments rather than single treatments.2

Pomegranate Fun Facts

During traditional Iranian weddings, a basket of pomegranates is placed on the ceremonial cloth to symbolize wishes for a joyous future. Following Turkish marriage ceremonies, the bride casts a pomegranate on the ground, and the number of arils that spill out are said to indicate the number of children the couple will have.

Remove Mucus From Your Lungs Overnight!

Cough is the natural method through which the body tries to get rid of the accumulated mucus or phlegm from the lungs. Colds and coughs can be harmless, but it can be very bothersome to sneeze and cough all the time. Coughing is annoying even to people surrounding us, and it can prevent us from concentrating.
You would think a cough syrup is the perfect solution, but the majority of cough syrups only suppresses the transmission of signals to the brain that triggers coughing. They usually contain codeine and dextromethorphan, the two major ingredients that help you sleep, and cause certain unwanted effects such as drowsiness, headaches, and rapid heart activities.
Honey is a remedy for a number of ailments. This includes general detoxification and treatments for dry skin. However, honey can also be used to soothe colds, because of its ability to remove mucus from the lungs. Honey is a safe treatment for both children and adults.
  • Honey;
  • Coconut oil;
  • Napkin;
  • Gauze;
  • Flour;
  • Bandage;
Combine flour and honey into a paste-like mixture, but try not to touch it. Drizzle in a tiny bit of coconut oil, add the fresh ginger juice to the honey paste and re-roll the honey mixture in flour. Transfer the resulting mixture onto a napkin, and wrap it using a gauze.
Place the wrap on your back or chest and fasten it with a bandage. Next, put on your pajamas and you can go to sleep. If the wrap is for a child, make sure to put it 2 or 3 hours prior to going to bed.
An adult can sleep with the wrap, but you need to know that it will make you sweat. This treatment has no side-effects, but be cautious if using it with kids since the wrap might cause an irritating effect on their gentle skin.

How to Grow Your Own Avocado Tree from Seed

It is a rare sighting to see a fully grown avocado tree if you are not living in Central America or Mexico (California and Florida in the USA).  Many people have tried to grow one in their own environment and have failed. However this is a reason to try harder, not to give up.
Avocado tree can grow up 70 feet in height, with leaves which are about 5 to 10 inches long. Avocado tree has small greenish-yellow flowers. The pear-shaped fruit is about 4 to 9 inches long, weighting between 4 oz to 34 oz, and has 1 single seed in the center.
However, you shouldn’t worry about the height. Your avocado won’t grow that tall.
How to grow avocado from seed or pit
The trick to growing the avocado tree is getting a pit from an overripe avocado. There are some stores that will put their overripe avocados on sale, making it more available to you.
Follow the instructions listed below on how to grow avocado tree.
  1. Remove the seed and wash off all the green remains from the fruit.
  2. Dry the seed by gently dubbing it with paper towel.
  3. Stab the seed gently with 3 toothpicks at around 1/3 of the height.
  4. Place the avocado seed or pit with point up in a jar filled with tepid water.
  5. Place the jar in a warm place but take care not to place it under direct sunlight.
  6. Check the water level regularly and make sure that at least 1 inch of the pit is in water.
  7. In 4 to 6 weeks, the pit will split. Stem will sprout from the top and roots will begin to grow at bottom. If you haven’t noticed a change in the pit so far, throw the pit out and buy another avocado and start all over.
  8. When the stem grows up to 6 inches you can cut it down to 3 just to strengthen the stem. As time passes by, there will be more leaves and more roots.
  9. After 3 more weeks you will need to plant the avocado seedling. Grab a medium size flower pot and put in some enriched potting soil up to about an inch to the top.  Make a hole in the middle by pushing the soil down with your finger and put the pit in. Make sure that the top stays above the dirt level and the stem is straight up.
Watering is pretty much normal. Just make sure the soil is wet, but not muddy.
As the avocado loves sunlight, it would be smart to put in near a window. This will provide the necessary sunlight.
Just to recap make sure you take care of the following points:
  • The tree will grow bigger if it is exposed to more sunlight.
  • Water lightly on regular basis, making sure that the soil is moist.
  • If the leaves are getting yellowish, you are over-watering.
  • If the leaves are getting brownish and fry at the tips, the soil might have accumulated too much salt. To fix this, let the water run freely into the pot, and drain.
When your avocado tree reaches the height of about 12 inches high, cut it down to 6 inches. This will cause the tree to grow sideways and to have more leaves.
Soon after that you should have a beautiful leafy avocado tree. The tree should provide fruits in about 7 to 15 years.
As this is a room variety of the plant, the fruits won’t be totally the same. They may vary in size and taste.
